The Alumni Chapters based in North Carolina are offering to facilitate the introduction of a North Carolina license plate with the University of Tennessee logo. We will have the honor of being the first state in the nation outside of Tennessee to have a university logo license plate.

Upon receipt of 300 or more applications from a college or university, the Division of Motor Vehicles is authorized to issue a license plate bearing the insignia of that college or university. The color, design, and material for the plate must be approved by both the Division of Motor Vehicles and the alumni or alumnae association of the appropriate college or university. A plate may be issued to anyone upon request. An additional $25.00 is charged for the issuance of each collegiate plate. $15.00 of the additional fee for each plate is transferred quarterly to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina for in-state public colleges and universities and to the respective board of trustees for in-state private colleges and universities.

The Chapter Presidents have agreed to the following process to make this as easy as possible for our Alumni and other supporters of the University.

1. Complete the application on the reverse side of this form. Be sure to include your email address. You may choose to personalize the plate for an additional $30.00 but you are limited to four (4) spaces.
2. Make your check payable to the UTNAA – (Local Chapter Name) Western NC Chapter, Charlotte NC Chapter, Piedmont NC Chapter or Triangle NC Chapter. In the memo area of the check, write UT/NC License plate. If you don’t know your Chapter, pick the one that you think applies to you.

4. The Chapters will not deposit your check until 300 applications are accumulated statewide. In the event that 300 applications are not collected by June 30, 2004, the Chapters will destroy your checks and notify you by email.
5. When the minimum of 300 application are collected, the Chapters will deposit your check into their accounts, then write a single Chapter check to the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. This is being done this way per the direction of the NC DMV.
6. The 300+ applications will be sent to one of our alumni, Mr. Donal Henry, who will carry them personally to the NC DMV office in Raleigh for processing.
7. You will receive your new UT logo North Carolina license plate in the mail.
